Response deadline tracker
Enter your file date and get the exact 30-day acknowledgment and 60-day response deadlines.
This applies the federal rule to the facts you give it and shows you the working. It does not predict what an airline will pay, and it is not advice about your situation.
Pick a date to see the two deadlines 14 CFR 259.7 sets.
The deadlines this tool applies
The same thresholds, laid out to read. Every one is taken from the regulation named below and is what the tool above applies.
- Written acknowledgement
- Within 30 days of the airline receiving your complaint
- Substantive written response
- Within 60 days of the airline receiving your complaint
- What the rule requires
- A response, not a particular answer. A substantive reply that refuses your claim still satisfies it.
- When the clock starts
- When the airline received the complaint, which may be later than when you sent it.
“acknowledge in writing receipt of each complaint … within 30 days … send a substantive written response to each complainant within 60 days of receiving the complaint”
What this tool is not
It is a rule lookup with your numbers in it. It cannot tell you what an airline will actually pay, because that depends on your fare, on facts the airline holds, and on how the airline chooses to respond. Where it shows a dollar figure, that figure is a federal ceiling and is labelled as one.
